Vacation: Time to appreciate the routine

Just kicking back and lounging on vacation...mostly. I think I need a vacation to recover from our vacation!
Toddlers are creatures of habit, and it's hard to stick to familiarity and routines in a hotel room on a tropical island. So Eli's napping schedule and eating has totally gone to hell in the past 4 days (although we did try to stick to regular times). Luckily we've stuck to bed time pretty well so far, although it requires us to sit in a dark hotel room for almost half an hour while he falls asleep (he's a very sound sleeper, and pretty good at putting himself to sleep alone in a dark room, but he doesn't deal well with light and distractions... like parents 6 feet away pretending to read). So, we huddle together in the corner where the WiFi works and read news articles on the laptop together with the lights off while he falls asleep...at 7:30. Talk about wild Caribbean parties!
We are finding out that a whole week is a really long time to break routines. It's only been 4 days, and today he only took a 30min nap in the car (yesterday's crib nap attempt was a seriously loud failure - it's hard to cry it out for too long in a hotel), and pretty much just ate a half banana, some cheerios and assorted crackers, and a whole lot of milk (refusing yogurt, applesauce, all his usual favorites). Eli has also discovered he can do the really loud, really shrill toddler scream. With no nap and little to eat, he was a pill for much of the day... a really really loud, shrill pill.
Let hope he finaly decides to eat and nap tomorrow...
