I keep marvelling at how much easier it was to travel when Eli was younger...he didn't really care about routines, and as long as he could sleep in his carrier and nurse when he wanted and we had a diaper handy we were all set to go anywhere.
Today Eli broke his fast and ate a reasonable amount of food: banana, applesauce, yogurt, plus some munchies, although still not much - his high-cal diet isn't going so well this week.
We went to the beach again this morning, and Eli got to play with another little girl (or rather, her beach toys), so a good time was had by all...at least until we had to de-sand Eli. He really did not enjoy getting hosed off under the outdoor shower, and it caused a bit of a scene from onlookers at the adjacent beachfront restaurant. He fell asleep on the 10min drive back to the hotel, so we figured a car nap was better than no nap and drove around the island for an hour and a half while he slept.
Then we ate lunch and went to tour the rum factory (sorry Eli, no tastings for you!) We then went to a pre-wedding happy hour at the nicest resort on the island, and Eli's good mood started to go downhill...loudly. We ate dinner there, but Eli wasn't interested in eating anything, he was just in a bad mood...until we got in the car of course, and then he literally started dancing. I think he's just tired of eating every meal in restaurants, not all of which have highchairs, so I take my cloth baby carrier with us everywhere to tie him to a chair if we need to. And there aren't sidewalks to speak of here, so the back carrier makes sense, but Eli is in such a squirmy stage now he doesn't always like to be confined, unless he is already tuckered out.
We are getting pretty nervous about the next few days though. Tomorrow night we have a pre-wedding barbecue, and then Saturday evening we have the wedding and reception...and then there's the flight home. He was pretty good on the flight here, although squirmy, and he fell asleep right before we landed and woke up when we had to deplane, but fortunately we had a row all to ourselves. Let's hope we are as lucky on the way home...

So this is what everyone was talking about when they said to enjoy them when they are young and mobile. Can't wait for 18 days in Alaska! Will be interested in your tips.
