Breaking News on CNN: Mothers face discrimination and penalties in the workplace, a so-called "Maternal Wall"! No!! What?? In 2006? Didn't we already resolve that with that whole "Women's Lib" thing?
A recent Paula Zahn segment on CNN on the "Motherhood Penalty" profiled two mothers, one who was fired while on maternity leave and the other was fired after complaining of discrimination (at a school, of all places) after returning from maternity leave. These types of employment discrimination complaints by mothers have risen 900% in the past several years (not that the instances of discrimination are increasing, rather mothers are finally trying to do something about it).
