Ok, this is really outdated, but on Justin's Birthday weekend in March we took the overnight train down to Florida to visit his Aunt& Uncle, Grandmother, and cousins, and his Mom& Ed flew down too. The train was...an experience. Somehow "Midnight Train to Georgia" kept playing through my head, mostly to try to keep my sense of humor about riding on a train overnight with a 2 year hold...without a sleeper car. Eli finally fell asleep after 11pm, and I sort of dozed and woke up at least every hour to reposition the leg loosing circulation or to see what station we had reached. Not the best night. Even better was the ride home where we got off the train at 7am, dropped Eli off at daycare (conveniently a few blocks from the station), went home to shower and change and went to work. The train is a great mode of travel with toddlers, but not overnight without a sleeper compartment.
We had a fun visit with the family. Eli had a blast running and tumbling all over the house, soaking up all the attention. On our last morning his great uncle surprised him with a ride on the water taxi - Eli asks to ride on boats constantly, so this was a big thrill. We also went to the zoo - Eli could watch the tamarinds all day. Justin, his uncle, and cousin all ran in the annual 15K race, so the rest of us went to cheer them on. Good time had by all, although I think I vote for driving next year.
