First Foray to Philly

Today we took a daytrip on the train up to Philadelphia. We left in the wee hours before dawn and arrived in time to eat breakfast at Cereality - Cereal Bar and Cafe. Yes, a cereal bar. You can pick any combos of cold cereals and toppings, or oatmeal and toppings. Way cool for cereal junkies. Eli got the nickel walk through UPenn and Drexel as part of his pre-college tour.

Then we walked to the Please Touch Museum, where Eli had a blast. He was obsessed with the cash register in the pretend grocery store, and later got soaked at the giant water play table. He also had fun on the slide shaped like a stream of milk into a cereal bowl from "In the Night Kitchen" by Maurice Sendak. He had an unfortunate incident with the giant stoplight and got quite the bump on his forehead.

We then took the tourist bus loop across town and walked to Jim's Steaks, reputably the best Philly Cheese Steaks. We waited in line around the block for 45 minutes, but it was worth it. Luckily Eli was asleep in his stroller the whole time we were waiting, although he woke up too groggy to try a bite of my pepper onion cheese steak with provolone...mmm.

And of course what trip to Philly is complete without the obligatory visit to the Liberty Bell. Unfortunately it was rather crowded and we had to wait in line for a little while, so Eli's patience was wearing thin by the time we had a photo op.

The train is definitely an easier mode of transit with a toddler, and overall he had a good ride. He asked us to read his "Chugga chugga Choo choo" book about a million times though.

Sounds like a cool museum. Definitely worth a trek up sometime.

Sounds like you all had a blast. I saw a blurb about the cereal bar on Food Network.
