Lena had her 2nd birthday recently. She is really growing up and isn't a baby anymore. Well, she's still little, but that doesn't stop her from doing big-kid things. The surprise at her checkup was that she is gaining ground on the growth charts (although as much as she eats she should be a linebacker)! We know she will probably always be small, but it's encouraging to see that she is still on the charts. She's now 31 1/2 inches tall (5%), weighs 24lbs (16%) and her head is 18 3/4" (50%). She looks about the size of a baby half her age (and can still wear 12mo size clothes, although she mostly wears 18mo now), but she's no baby!
She is a fast runner, can speak in short sentences, and is getting pretty good at using the potty (although she needs help to get up onto the big toilet). The edge of the toilet seat goes all the way down to her ankles and just her feet hang off, so she usually prefers her little potty chair. I'm having trouble finding non-onesie undershirts and pull-ups small enough for her (theoretically she's in the size range for the smallest pull-ups, but they are pretty loose on her so she gets plummer's butt). I have no idea what we'll do if she decides she's ready for underwear anytime soon - she'll have to stay in training pants until she grows!
She is just now able to reach things on the edge of the table or counter and can almost reach doorknobs. She can finally wear 'real' shoes. Up until the end of the summer her feet were so tiny she was in "pre-walker" sizes which are hard to find with real soles for walking, but now that she is a size 5 it is much easier to find shoes for her. Her hair has gotten rather long, and her bangs are in her eyes all the time but I can't bring myself to trim them yet so some days I do a quick whalespout. Her 2 favorite phrases are "I did it! (for anything good) and "Eli did it!" (for anything bad).
For her birthday her Grandma & Grandpa Ed and Great Aunt & Great Uncle came to visit from out of town so we just let the fam get their photo op at a small party at Nana & Grandpa's house. She even had a custom butterfly cake baked and decorated by her Great Aunt.
She was a really amazing patient at her first dentist visit. Event the dentist was impressed by how well she cooperated. All 4 of her 2-year molars are still growing in and everything looks good. She was excited about her new toothbrush and trial-sized tube of kids toothpaste which she pointed to her bottom and said "bum!" (thinking it was diaper cream). While they were both waiting for the dentist to come do her final check, they sat together in the big dentist chair which was pretty cute and got lots of "awws" from the hygenists.
